Cash is probably good for small sums like 1 or 2 grand.

Personal cheques are sometimes not acceptable to the seller because of international reasons, or banking reasons.

Bank TT is the safest way to seal a transaction. It offers protection for the seller and buyer as it can be a record that money has been paid.

I was planning to pay with cash, but, as I learn more about large boats, I will probably use a Certified Check. One, it a Guarantee to the seller the money is there. Two, it does give a paper trail should something not be as it should.
Now, if you talking a ski boat or something that $2000-5000 cash may be OK. But read the Article I link you to. Also, see the oval pic almost top center? Left and Right of this are a lot of articles to help in buying a boat.

CASH, NO PAYMENTS. MAKE SURE THE BOAT IS THROUGHLY CHECKED OUT BY A MARINE SURVEYOR IF YOU ARE SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY ON A USED BOAT. HE WILL CHARGE SEVERAL HUNDRED TO DO IT BUT HE WILL STOP YOU FROM OVERPAYING OR BUYING A LEMON.
