I'm having a discussion about the "right" way to play Pat-a-Cake.

Do you clap on each beat of the song:
Pat- (clap) a- cake, pat (clap) -a-cake, bake- (clap) ers man (clap)

Or do you clap on each syllable:
Pat- (clap) a-(clap) cake (clap), Pat- (clap) a-(clap) cake (clap), bake- (clap) ers (clap) man (clap)

Just wondering which way is more common?

Interesting discussion starter. :o)

After giving it some thought (because I really hadn't ever before), I do it the first way: clap on each beat.

Also, I tend to insert my child's initial and name in place of "B" and "Baby". But maybe that's just me.

Out of those two Im not sure really.. but I go

(Say is fast-like speed)
Pat a cake,(clap) pat a cake,(clap)
(Slow down a bit)
bake- (clap) ers (claps) man (clap)

Or just at a normal speed.

I agree with January. I go with the beat and use my child's name in place of baby. By the way my little guy is 8 months and this is his most favorite game. He just giggles so when we play this together.

I'm with the first answerer. That's how I do it too.
