What is so addictive about this series that makes older guys secretly watch every episode until completion?
Do you think deciding to have Mischa Barton-Marissa Cooper die at the end of series 3 was a good choice for this series?

i watched it until they killed off mischa barton's character. it's pretty good but like you, i don't really understand the magic behind it (at least in the earlier seasons when the ratings were really high and no other show could beat it)... i mean it's a highschool drama like other teenshows so i don't know why older guys watch it.. i'm a girl so i watch it for the drama.. plus, seth and ryan are total eye candies...
i think it wasn't a good choice when they killed off marissa cooper... the story was about the four (ryan, seth, summer and her) of them, their drama, especially ryan and marissa's... it's just a never-ending complications for those two.. so when they killed her off, the oc was never the same...

The ratings tell a different story. It was losing viewers each season as the music got worse and the story lines got repeatative.
I have mixed feelings about Marissa. I don't think the character was written well at all, even if it was Mischa playing Paris Hilton. So Mischa can cry (Lost and Delirious), but she is seriously funny (Lawn Dogs, Skipped Parts) and they went with sad and angry which translates to annoying after an extended period of time.
When it went from dark to light in the last season, it was all over.

OMG I'm watching The O.C from season 1 right now..
Marissa is soo annoying in with Oliver and Ryan, they shouldn't have killed her off.
The best episode of The O.C is was Johnny died that is fav dnot that you want to know :-)
