start the bike, struggles to stay running, give it gas and it wavers but will ultimately catch on. I can't believe it is bad gas and I drained the float bowls. What other possibilities. thanks.

What bike? With or without choke? Cold start, I presume. Could be a variety of things, most common, the carbs are not exactly matched to each other. Do you have an enrichener system, or a simple choke? The enrichener systems don't always enrich all cylinders. If you have a choke, the choke plates in the carbs may be out of whack.

Hey buddy it sounds like you are having some carb trouble, I would try some berrymans carb cleaner in with the gas,but don't put the whole can in the tank for it treats like 20 gallons of gas and a bike don't hold that much

it could be that the head gasket is leaking. when it heats up and everything swells, it stops leaking. check the compression cold and see if you get one dropping fast...

also, if it's water cooled, does the oil look like chocolate milk?

check through your ignition system, sounds like its probably damp or a faulty HT lead.
