Whats the best way to completely erase a hard drive on a laptop you cant log in to?

I have a micron transport trek 2 that has windows 200 professional. I recieved it from a friend who picked it up when gutting a house and I cant log into the computer. I want to know what the best way to completely erase the hard drive so I can install a new os.
