Oh, not if you have nothing to hide. Haven't you heard? If you haven't done anything wrong, then you won't mind having every personal detail of your life available to your government. And if it bothers you that your government is allowed to spy on you without court approval, then you must be a terrorist.
This is the new American idyll.

Yes, it's wrong -- but up until a few weeks ago, it was legal as long as she was only talking to someone else outside the US.
Now, given the changes to FISA enacted by Congress a few weeks ago -- not only can her phone be tapped, or your phone be tapped (as long as she is declared the target) -- but your phone calls can be monitored even when you are talking to someone else INSIDE the US, just in case you might be talking about her outside the US.
And that's a Constitutional violation -- if the courts ever allow the law to be challenged (based on the claims of national security that prevent anyone from even asserting a constitutional violation).

Yes, it is... and as coragryph pointed out, calls within the US could be monitored as well. Just look at the FBI's latest toy, the Digital Collection System Network (DCSNet)...

I don't have a girlfriend in Montreal, but if I did I guess I wouldn't care too much, he'd probably get bored and hang up anyway.

The idea of wiretaps is wrong. The whole layout for the Patriot Act is pretty much lighting a match under our Constitution, let alone our self being and privacy.

Maybe if the house was getting calls from suspected Al Qaeda cells. Do you REALLY think Bush doesn't have better things to do.

Chi Guy, I have said it before and I'LL SAY it again, the gov isn't listening or care about, or listening to the conversation about how Aunt Eunice nitted you a sweater in the 3rd grade, what they are listening to is criminal and terrorist activity and as former Air Force you should no that!!!!!!!, besides if your not a terrorists or committing a criminal ACT the you have nothing to worry about do you.
edit, coragryph, spoken like a true lawyer, then I guess if you didn't, you wouldn't have clients to defend and make crazy jack, helping criminals get off scott free.

he can listen to whatever i have to say. unless you have something to hide, then i wouldn't worry about it. how bout trying to be less dependent on your phone and communicate with people in old fashioned ways. i mean, if he really wants to listen to me and mu husband talk about what to have for dinner or how bad traffic is then i don't give a sh*t.

No one is interested in that kind of conversation. Certainly not the president. I am willing to have my calls monitored to protect our people, our country.
