He used to be gold/orange with like 1-2 white patches, and I went to school for a few weeks and came back and now he is completely white! My family says they aren't sure when he started turning white. Is there something wrong with him? Will he be okay? He seems fine, but I want him to stay that way! What should I do?

If this is the skin it may just be a change due to his genetics. Younger goldfish often changes colors, mostly becoming lighter. This should only be of concern if the color is dull (in which case your fish may be producing too much of a slime coat, and this is caused by parasites or irritant from the water its in) or if it's "fuzzy"in appearance. If "fuzzy" if you can make out separate strands and the edge is an irregular shape, this can be Saprolegnia or Achlya "fungus" and treated with malachite green, fungal medication, or aquarium salt. If the strands are matted and have a circular outline, this could be a bacterial infection called Columnaris. This can be treated with Nifurpirinol (brand names are Furanace or Binox).

Your fish is not going to die, and I highly doubt it's a fungus. I have quite a few goldfish in my tank that used to have black spots on top of orange, well the black has faded and they're now completely orange... all this happened about a year ago. If you take care of your fish then they can live for a long time, my oldest goldfish I've had for 3 years, and he was about 2 years when I got him. Your fish will be fine!

Goldfish turn colors as they get older. As long as he's in a large clean tank eating food especially formulated for fish then there's no need to worry.

How old was the fish? Goldfish in my water garden had babies. Some were orange, some mixed and some albino. I was amazed how quickly their colors changed.

If you have had him for more than 4 months, he is about to pass away. You might take him to a pet store/vet's office and see what they can do, but I'm pretty sure he's a goner.

Don't worry too much, though. He's going to a better place. You'll see him again someday...

Family killed the fish and bought a new white one so you wouldnt know your fish was dead. They bought a white one because after your fish died it turned white and your family figured it was always that color.
