Sea salt is formed from the natural evaporation of ocean water, generally in man-made pools near a protected shoreline. Sea salt is 98% sodium chloride, compared to table salt's 99.9% purity. The remaining 2 percent can be trace minerals such as iron, magnesium, sulfur or iodine. Unlike table salt, which is mined from land-based sources, natural sea salt does not contain added sugar, anti-caking ingredients or potassium iodide. Sea salt is also considered Kosher, which means it has been approved by rabbis for use by observant Jews.

The sea is salty because most of the rivers and streams which are strewn with rock and plant debris empty into it.The rocks contain many minerals and salt(especially sodium chloride)which dissolve in the water. These are carried to the sea by the rivers.
When these sea waters evaporate due to the heat of the sun, they leave the salt behind. The evaporated water come back to the land again as rain and the rivers again carry this water to sea.As this cycle is repeated, the amount of salt increases(as it is going for millions of years)but the water content remains the same.
If the seas also have an outlet to let out the salt, the oceans water may not be salty.
