I have a 1985 ford Ltd midsize stationwagon. I was getting into the car the other day, and accidently put my house keys on the dash . Somehow they dropped into the heater vent on the dash. I heard a noise and they were gone. I have tried putting a magnet down the vent to retrieve them. I dismanteled the dash, with no success. Where do you think they could be in the heating system on that car.?
Thanks for your advice.

The defroster vent on the dash collects into one molded piece of duct work that runs right down the fire wall to the
main duct box that goes left and right. If you have good flex
magnet and your lucky you can get to that midle duct by going thru the heater vent on passenger side floor close to the trans hump. Good luck!!!

You will have to look under the dash an see if there is a piece of duck work that can come out , There should be a control valve that's where the keys will get caught before falling into the squirrel cage best get them out>>>

Get my spare car and house keys from a magnetic key box which is under my car. Drive home, open front door with spare key and make a cup of tea

at this point it usefully to show photos, I dont even know what I'm facing, I don't know the shape of the dash.....

first you should locate the key, than you probably have to make a utensil by deforming a clothes hanger(the cheap ones made of metallic wires) use a pair of pliers give it a hook shape at the end, shape it so that it could easily go down[turn off the car while you do this]

That part of the dash seems to be a black hole, I have lost lots of stuff there over the years, without taking the whole assembly apart forget it, you can try one of those dental mirrors they sell in the drug store, good luck
