y (3y + y + y^2) = 0

factor out a y

y^2 (3 + 1 + y) = 0

y^2 (4 + y) = 0

set each one to 0

y^2 = 0
4 + y = 0 solve for y

y = 0
y = -4

First clear up your question... You wrote in symbols
y times 3y plus y plus y squared.........y(3y+y+y^2) = 3y^2+y^2+ Y^3 = 4Y^2 + y^3
BUT you wrote
y times 3y plus y times y squared y(3y + y(y^2)) = y ( 3y + Y^3)=3Y^2+ Y^4

To help you we need to know what the actual function is... The two ways you wrote your "equation" aren't even equal. 5y^3 is what the top one says, but the bottom simplifies to 4y^4... Repost your question and I'll try to help
