My daughter is two months old and has to have a sono done to determine if she has two kidneys because she had only two blood vessels in the umbilical cord. My sister-in-law said they may do this as a renal sono. Is this what they do to determine this? No one told me what to expect!!???!!

If they're checking for kidneys then yes, they would do a renal ultrasound (sonogram). They could also be more extensive and do the entire abdomen, that's up to your Doctor. It's completely painless to her. When you schedule the test, they should tell you how to prepare. They may not make her fast at all because she's so young. It's really no different then your OB ultrasounds, other then their looking at the kidneys instead of a baby.

A renal sono is an ultrasound of the kidneys. Did you get an ultrasound during pregnancy? Just like that but looking at the kidneys. Painless, don't worry. I hope your daughter is allright....
