3x^ would be 9x squared. then youd just add the x and - the two since you cant do any more simplifying with them.

9xsq. +x-2

or thats how i would do it.

3x^2 + x - 2 = 0
(3x - 2)(x + 1) = 0

3x - 2 = 0
3x = 2
x = 2/3

x + 1 = 0
x = -1

just plug the numbers back into the original formula to make sure they both work out. if one or the other doesn't work then it's not part of the answer (it is extraneous).
