This is something of a Folktale, but also has a truth to it. The grandfather clock stood in the parlor or against the wall of the steps in many ranches and farms. The grandmother clock sat on three metal legs, a big bell on top, and was always set and wound for 4:30 A.M. so Grandmother could have Breakfast for the hands and family at 5:30 A.M.

A grandmother clock is a smaller grandfather clock. I have a grandmother clock. It has a pendulum and plays a tune every 15 minutes until it finishes the tune on the hour and then it gongs the hour.

I have never heard of a grandmother clock. But if there is one I am sure the grandfather clock is older and bigger.

The grandfather is the bigger version and it has the full features. The grandmother is scaled down for smaller home and they cut back on the mechanicals due to less room.
