i am a 31 year old female. i was studying at school, walked out to my car and as i was unlocking my door i noticed a knot the size of a gobstopper on the top side of my hand close to my wrist. I do not ever remember hitting it. it is not hard nor soft. it protrudes more when i bend my wrist down. it doesnt really even hurt. this happened 3 days ago. any ideas what it could be or what i should do?

Ganglion cyst are pretty common. You can have them aspirated, injected or removed. They do have a tendency to come back even with surgery. The can sometimes go away on their on. In years gone by people would have someone slam a bible on the cyst and it would rupture it. Personally, I do not recommend that. I don't care that much for pain.

Sounds like a ganglion cyst.

This is where the joint lining makes a bubble of fluid. They are not a problem, but can be quite painful.

Your options are ignoring it, having it 'aspirated' (sucking out the liquid with a needle), or having it operated on. Recurrance is somewhat high with the latter two.

I recommend ignoring it - mine comes and goes, but when I do have it I have to bandage my wrist because of the pain. Sometimes I rub anti-inflammatory creams into it.

it is a ganglon cyst. I have one on top of each hand. It is usually treated with antibiotics but if they don't disolve the cyst the surgery is needed to remove it. Best of luck!

It is probably a type of cyst. My girlfriend had one and the doctor simply broke it up by mashing it. It then reabsorbed. Don't wait to go to the doctor. Waiting will make it harder to break up.
