Trying to flush out the Trek fans? Found one! Impossible to choose - they all have their strong points. Kirk could beat anyone in a fist fight and yet be very charming, Picard had finesse and gallantry, Janeway could negotiate a treaty with anyone, and Sisko had a quiet strength and determination that wouldn't yield, and yet was an excellent father to his son, and Archer had an explorer's zeal and a good sense of humor. Actually, all of them had most of these characteristics. It would be fun to see them all on the same mission together.

I was a fan from the first episode of the original series and I was skeptical when they launched Star Trek: TNG but I was hooked from the first episode Encounter at Farpoint. Jean-Luc Picard's character was fuller and more robust. Patrick Stewart was a better actor than Shatner and came off as a truly in-command type leader who used more tha force to survive. In fact, the whole series was better written and produced. I often found myself asking 'What would Picard do' so for my money I'll go with the master of NCC1701D.

Spock-the most logical choice
(Star Trek II he was a capitain, Turned his command over to Admiral kirk in the crisis
In the second Star Trek movie, Admiral Kirk is now a Starfleet Academy instructor, while Captain Spock serves as a cadet training officer, while being in command of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Meanwhile, scientists aboard Space Station Regula I are conducting the Project Genesis experiment, and the U.S.S. Reliant is assigned to the Genesis project. While surveying a lifeless planet in the Ceti Alpha star system, Cmdr. Chekov and Capt. Clark Terrell beam down to the sixth planet, and find a shocking discovery, in which cargo containers are located. Unknown to the Reliant crew was that the cargo containers housed refugees from the Eugenics Wars of 1990s Earth, with Khan Noonian Singh in charge. Khan later revealed that Ceti Alpha VI exploded, and shifted the orbit of the fifth planet as a Mars-like haven. Khan manages to hijack the Reliant, and manages to steal the Genesis Device. Admiral Kirk takes the U.S.S. Enterprise on a training mission, and is involved in a surprise attack, in which Khan vows to avenge his exile. Unfortunately, Captain Spock sacrifices himself to save the Enterprise from the premeditated arming of the Genesis torpedo, and after his death, his casket (which is a converted torpedo tube) was fired from the U.S.S. Enterprise

Captain Kirk hands down. If there wasn't him, there wouldn't've been all those other guys. Plus, I only watched the original Star Trek.

I used to think it was Kirk, but have noticed that he tends to go in and "take what's his" if it suits him. Picard is a better diplomat, gives greater thought to interfering or violating the prime directive. I find this quality makes the better captain in the ST universe.
