Algae are plantlike, animal-like protists are animal like (obviously).

Plants are producers (autotrophs). They make their own food through photosynthesis. Unicellular algae do basically the same thing. Remember that algae is basically pond scum. Pond scum is green, just like plants.

Animals are consumers. They have to eat to get food and energy. Animal-like things would most likely do the same thing.

Because algae are photosynthetic, they release oxygen gas into their environment. In most cases this is some kind of pond, creek, or body of water. They are food for other creatures, but they also keep oxygen in the water. Algae work sort of like the aerator in a fish tank that makes bubbles for the fish. That is one of the big benefits of algae to their environment.

This should be enough to get you started, but you should elaborate more. Look in your biology book, there are probably a few paragraphs about this in there.
