You have made two blanket statements - first that Americans (implication ALL) think they are so good at EVERYTHING and second that students (implication again ALL) in America are really stupid. If we are to take these statements as reliable in any way, we would have to assume that you KNOW all 300 + million Americans and also know EVERY student in EVERY school. Forgive me if I doubt you!

I'm an American - and frankly proud and thankful to be so - who happens to be smart enough to know that I don't know everything. Only the truly stupid people think they know everything and/or are good at everything.

If you get the idea that Americans think they have contributed a great deal to the world at large, perhaps it's because we are proud of the fact that it was America/an American who invented the telephone, the light bulb, the automobile, the phonograph, moving pictures, the Morse Code, the TV, the Internet, the personal computer, figured out how to fly and then invented planes and the list goes on and on. If the fact that we Americans are proud of these advances, you are right. It does not follow, however, that we think we are so good at everything.

World Wars I and II were won because of BOTH Britain (including Canada and Australia) and America. That's something worthy of pride on both sides.

BTW: These inventions were made by former students of American schools. Thus, you're assumption that all students at all American schools are stupid is invalid.

There's much more that could be said. However, I'll conclude by asking you to stop being so judgmental and keep in mind that a know-it-all knows nothing. Remember that loving one's country is not the same thing as believing we are the only nation good at anything.

Because we are! Just kidding....actually it is quite sad. American students are never really corrected like students in other countries. When someone does something wrong, they are told it is okay and to try harder next time. They get away with it so the just keep doing things the same way. In other countries teachers work harder to improve their student. They don't tell them that their work is just fine...when it isn't just so the student's feelings don't get hurt.

Anyways, that is why SOME students in America think they are good at everything, when they are not. You really shouldn't stereotype all of us!

Please, don't group every student in America as a whole. Okay, there are some people that think they are good at everything, but there are people like that in every country no matter where you are. I want to know, did you do this to start a racial argument or something? If you did, then good job, that's what you got.
Well have fun thinking that you're smarter than everyone in America.
No, really, have fun being a total stuck up, snob.

We don't... Even though some Americans do, although these are either spoiled prep kids or ignorant and insensitive teens. And kids in America's schools are not 'stupid,' although I believe that 1/3 of the schoolchildren are smart, 1/3 are average, and another 1/3 are underacheivers.

I'm Canadian.
Not only does your question indicate your own cranial deficiencies, but a total lack of respect. It is almost September - You still might have time to get enrolled in a school near you, where you can learn to capitalize the first word in a sentence, and a proper noun (such as "Americans").
As for the respect thing, you might have to wait until the first time you get your *** kicked in real life before you learn that.
Good luck.

Americans do not think they are good at everything.
Our students are not stupid.
What our children are is confident in the abilities they have and the potential that they have to learn what they do not know.

Where are you from and why do you thing you have the right to judge all American children?
Isn't that a form of stereotyping and bigotry? They are both brought on by ignorance, So who do you think is really being stupid?

OK, this question might have some teeth in it if you gave some specifics, but when it's as vague as it is, it's ridiculous.

Americans are good at business and have an economy that's envied around the world. We have tourists who flock to the U.S. to see our famous sites, manmade or natural. And we do have a lot of smart people - along with the less-smart, just like every country.

What country are you in, and what *specific* things do you think are wrong with American schools and the kids in them?

Some Americans (not all) assume they are good at everything. Some other people (people like you) assume all Americans think they are good at everything and create a misunderstanding.

Likewise, some American students (not all) are regettably stupid. Some other people (people like you) think they themselves are more clever and they are entitled to condemn other people in what they do and create more misunderstanding.

Can you see what I am saying?

I am american and I don't think I'm good at everything. But maybe what you are seeing could be caused by excessive pride or possibly even too much emphasis in this country on self-esteem--to the extent that people don't want to tell other people that they are bad at things because it may hurt their feelings.

Proof is in the pudding. If they're so stupid they wouldn't be so much more productive than every other country.

Such a vast generalization is itself stupid. I presume you've personally interviewed every single student in every single school in America? No? Shocking!
