Old Faithful was and is still a geyser in the park, one of the larger ones there and has been erupting on a regular basis for many years.

Old Faithful is a Geyser that goes down untold thousands of feet into a crack that allows volcanic venting into a water vein and every few moments when the pressure in the vein (aquifer) builds up, it vents by blowing, the rest is history.
