12 to 14 hours. I've always used timers which I get for about $5 at Wal-mart. They automatically turn the light on and off at the same times everyday.

And go with a higher wattage bulb. I personally use 75 watt basking bulbs, but it depends on how far the bulb is from the basking spot. Aquatic turtles can handle high temps, especially if they can go in the water to keep cool. A 100 watt would be fine too. Just monitor your temps.

You probably want at least a 75, if you have a large tank or the light is far away from the basking area, you want a 100 or higher. Leave it on 10-12 hours a day and turn it off for the night.

How long? About the average daylength, about 10-14 hours on.

What wattage? Enough to bring the basking site to about 90F.
