Think about it, if they were required to have a license, they would have to be checked for STDs on a regular basis, which would cut down on the spread of these diseases. It would also be a lot safer for prostitutes, who could stop working on the dangerous streets and instead could either set up shop with their own business or give out a number to meet clients at their own homes or at hotels. I don't really see the downside here, since people are going to do this regardless of legality. After all, it is the world's oldest profession.

Personally, I think it's very silly to have an activity that is completely legal, and which two adults can engage in -- that suddenly becomes illegal if money changes hands.
In other words, you can do it for free -- and you can do it for barter (dinner, whatever) -- but you cannot make it contractual.
That's an arbitrary line that is irrational -- and solely a matter of prudish politicians who don't want to have to talk about sex.

Why should it be illegal to sell something that's perfectly legal to give away? I completely agree. The illegality of prostitution is simply the result of our prudish politicians forcing antiquated religious taboos on everyone.
One could argue that prostitution in immoral. But I don't think that's the government's business to decide.
It isn't as though it being illegal is stopping anyone in the first place. And legalizing the practice and requiring workers to obtain licenses would make the practice far more safe and sanitary.

Well, in a world of lobbying, rationality doesn't exist! Decisions are taken strictly on political agenda and not for true social efficiency!
It is sad to see but our world is like this!! Why do my sister working in an emergency department, risking her life to save others is less paid than useless city blue collar that are 4 to plant a tree and have 4 to 5 hours a day of paid sleep time and paid over 30$ an hour? Well you got your answer this world has lost sight of its social priorities... Talk about a dysfunctional world...
Also, Amsterdam has legalized this, but they have gone a little bit too far for my taste (female catalogues and on). As for criminality, well it goes down much more when society permit those things, has it help release frustrations in deviant minds... Also during wars its get promoted to cool down hyperactive soldiers... So studies on criminality... I am more scared of human traffiquing...

i think of there would desire to be legalised brothels. that's happening besides, so a minimum of this way if would be extra secure for the females, and known wellbeing assessments would be sure that's extra secure for the shoppers. It nevertheless won't stop unlawful prostitution as lots of those are addicts who will do a trick for a fiver (not great i understand, yet a reality of lifestyles) and a few adult males are not that fussy who they get their leg over with.

No because if we let our country's morals just fly out the window prostitution would only be the start. Soon it would be legalized drugs, gay marriage, and substances could be sold to minors. Some things are just wrong and need to be illegal. If the prostitutes would like to not get STDs or have to worry about the dangerous streets they should simply get real jobs. They might not pay as much but their legal and safe.

i think it should be legalized..think about it:: the women choose to, nobody MAKES them, well in some countries that's the case, but not in America, UK or Canada.
the men get something they want and women get something they want (money).
when girls marry rich guys just for their money and have sex with them that's basically a different form of prostitution.
i think you're right.
