ok, how many have seen the bourne ultimatum? at the end, matt damon jumps off a "10 story building" into the river, and swims away with no injury.
of course this is the movie, but in the spirit of having some free time on my hands (and a good mythbusters idea), would someone really swim away, or even live?
It's been awhile since I've taken physics, but here I'll try:
10 stories * 10 ft / floor = 100 feet. Let's tack 50 more feet for good measure (1st floor + shoreline?). 150 feet.
been a little bit since i've taken physics, forgive me...
We want to find velocity at the end. v^2 = v0 ^ 2 + 2 * a * (150) = 0 + 2 * 32 * 150 = sqrt(9600) = 97.98 ft / second
Time to fall. V / a = t; 97.98 / 32 ~ 3 seconds
now, do you think a final velocity of about 98 ft / second into water is enough to injure / kill a person?

distance = 150 ft = 0.5 * 32.2 ft/s^2 * t^2
t^2 = 150 * 2 / 32.2 = 9.317
t = 3.05 seconds.
speed on impact (I'll use 3 seconds instead of carrying all these fractions).
v = 32.2 ft/s^2 * 3 s = 96.6 ft/s = 66 mph.
He is dressed; he has been trained to resist pain and shocks to his body, he has been trained to think rapidly (like, finding the proper way to orient his body properly within 3 seconds).
Yeah, he should be able to take a 66 mph entry into water, especially if the water surface is turbulent (it hurts a lot more to hit a very flat sheet of water than one which is wavy and bubbly: that is why they have sprays or bubling machines at diving competitions)

If you're trained on how to enter the water, I'm sure it wouldn't be impossible for a person to survive a jump from that height. There are instances of people surviving after hitting the ground from similar heights - I believe there was a kid in New York who survived a fall from about 8 stories earlier this year although he fell on wet soggy ground.
But more to the point, this is a fictional movie. You're supposed to check questions like that at the door.

Yes, for a number of reasons:
1. It's Jason Bourne. Enough said.
2. People jump off cliffs higher than that regularly.
3. If he would have lived, there would not be another movie coming.

Yes, you're absolutely right! The conversation at the end of Supremacy is inserted into Ultimatum so the audience can get a feel for the time line for the movie's events. I'm sure the actors probably re-did the dialogue and scenes, but it is exactly the same. Congrats - you get to brag to your friends!

Assuming he dived, he probably would have lived. Anything else, he woudl be dead for sure. At 50 feet, you break your legs, at 100 feet, you die, unless you dive, that breaks the surface tension of the water, which is what kills you on impact. Anything more than 100 feet would be fatal I would think. I know for sure at 180 feet your a goner no matter what you do.

People even survive jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge, so I think 100 feet is survivable -- as long as you don't smack face first, of course.
