IMO you have to be sort of deep and intellectual to get the meaning of their songs. Or on some crazy drugs that everything makes sense, but what they say is as true today as it was back then.

Possibly only if Syd Barret stayed with the band instead of going solo and insane from too many drugs. Otherwise they are one of the greatest bands ever.

I liked them a lot. But they were played to death during my youth. I was a huge Pink Floyd fan many years ago. I still love them and understand their merit etc, I just get bored really quick when I hear them, and you will too someday.
Once the boredom of Floyd, Zeppelin, Hendrix and Sabbath crept in, I started discovering other bands of that genre in the early 70's like 'Gong' , Edgar Broughton Band',
'Amon Duul II', 'Camel', 'Lucifers Friend', 'Focus', 'Atomic Rooster', 'Nektar', 'Far Out Family Band' 'Gentle Giant', early 'Genesis', and a wide assortment of progressive rock and hard rock bands to large to mention.
The only Pink Floyd albums I can really listen to without getting bored these days is 'Obscured by Clouds', 'Atom Heart Mother', and 'Meddle', or some of their earlier stuff with Syd. I have a beautiful original pressing of 'Obscured' on the EMI/Harvest label with the rounded corners cover and it sound f*cking incredible on my turntable. Way better than my CD version. I still own all of their albums on vinyl, and some are still sealed! I have several copies of 'Dark Side of the Moon', UK and Canadian pressings that came with the two posters, and the two stickers. Two are still sealed. I even own a couple sealed pressings of 'Wish You Were Here' that were wrapped in black cellophane when it was originally released in 1975. You couldn't see the cover, or the track listings, just a small round sticker in the upper left corner telling you what you were buying. Pink Floyd marketing genius?
I actually bought all their albums on CD back in the early 90's thinking I might enjoy hearing them again...I was wrong. There are many bands from that era that I still really enjoy listening to, but sadly Pink Floyd are not one of them. I don't know why. Maybe it's because they were so commercial? And I don't mean 'commercial' in the sense of top 40 singles, but rather 'commercial' in the sense of album sales. But so was Zeppelin, Sabbath, and many others, and I still don't mind hearing them now and again. Also their drummer (Nick Mason) was horrible! A better rhythm section might have held my interest a little longer I suppose. Roger and Nick were somewhere between inadequate and adequate I think.
Dark Side, The Wall, Animals and the rest are really left for the younger people of today. I totally understand why you enjoy it so much. I did also when it was something new. It's almost like watching a re-run of 'Family Guy' over and over for me now, and that sucks after a few times!.
Been there...done that! Enjoy it while you still can!

I'm 15 and have been a fan since I was 10. A lot of people get all worked up over the whole Waters vs Gilmour ordeal when Waters left in 85' (not that I remember hah) but they are completely missing the point. Being that Floyd is good when they were all together collaborating material instead of fighting and kicking out members.

I guess if all you like is nasally songs about relationships, incompetence, and blood, blood, gallons of the stuff, then you might not like them.

Otherwise they're great :D

I don't get why people say only stoners like them, because I'm quite far from that. DARE graduate, #1 in my class, and they're my favorite band so far. You don't need drugs to trip, you just need some of that good music to trip :D

I've liked them since... since... since 9 months before I breathed my first breath! I really got into them mid 2005 (12 years old), bought Inside Out early 2006(13 years old), and went crazy since then. It kind of hooks you! By the way, I'm fourteen now.

I love Pink Floyd.

And I'm only 25!

A lot of people these days don't understand them because they only like 'simple' music. They just don't get euphamism & metaphor {mainstays of Classic Rock}, and want every song to be 3.00 mins long and sound just like all the rest.

But I do wish people would stop going on about drugs.

You do ~*~NOT~*~ need to be on drugs to appreciate
Classic Rock!

they are amazing some people think they are not that great because all they have heard are their radio hits Money and another brick in the wall. Their albums are some of the best ever. Dark Side of the Moon always gives me goosebumps. And then everyone associates them with drugs even though only Syd was the one doing drugs. Just because of Richard's use of spacey jazz cords they say it is druggy. The more you know about music the more you will appreciate good music.

The only way to not like them would be to have your head between Dollies jugs Parton.
