There are no negative ones. You can get occasional outbreaks throughout your life, but they don't do anything - it is harmless, like oral herpes. There is a very small chance of passing it to your baby during childbirth if you are having an outbreak at the time, but doctors would monitor you for that. Herpes is pretty harmless, it is more a nuisance at times than anything else. Most people who have it have no symptoms or incredibly mild symptoms.

It is no different from oral herpes (cold sores). Both type 1 and type 2 herpes, whether the infection is oral or genital, are incredibly common. My best friend has had genital herpes for about eight months now, and it's been really rough. She's had about 7 outbreaks.
