I am doing a transmission pan drop/filter change from Dexron III to Dexron VI. Since I only get about 50% of the fluid out I want to let it homogenize and then do a second fluid exchange to bring the total to around 75%. About how long will it take the fluid to mix together throughly? This is for an 02 gmc sonoma 4 speed auto.

drive around the block and it will be mixed. check the tourque convertor for a drain plug GM usually does not have them , but you may get lucky. some shops will drill and tap for one.

An easier and better way is to remove the inlet line to the radiator trans cooler, push a rubber hose onto it and put it in a bucket. Start the engine and wait a few seconds while the fluid is pumped into the bucket. Shut off the engine as soon as it stops pumping and add 5 quarts in the dipstick tube and start it till it stops pumping again. Pull pan and change filter, refill and you have 100% new oil.
