I give him all the credit in the world for still playing at such a high level for how old he is but as far as being in the top 5 defensemen off all time, nope, not even in the top 20!!! There have been much better in the history of the NHL!!

It's a great question but no. You have to rate Orr, Harvey, Bourque and Shore over Chelly so that leaves him battling guys like the Montreal three (Savard, Lapointe and Robinson), Coffey, Fetisov, even Boring Salming, D. Potvin, Earl Seibert. Bil Gadsby, Red Kelly...geez there are a ton he'd have to rate up against. I doubt you can call Chelly a top 5 all-time D guy then.

As a leader and a contributor on the team, he is fantastic.

He is not top 5, even though he will certainly be in the Hall of Fame. All-time is a rough category, especialy when you only give it 5 spots.

Bourque, Orr, Leetch, MacInnis and Lidstrom are all ahead of him. There are plenty others too.

He is definetily top 25 though...

First off, whats that video got to do with him being one of the top five dman of all time?

I will respond to the video in this: Chelios was a big Blackhawk at that time and trying to please his fans, you know the pressure of the media, and the Wings and the Hawks were real rivals at that time. He now has a nice home here in Detroit and will likely finish his career here.

And idk if Chelis one of the top 5 offensive dman of all time but hes a great defensive defensman. He has i think 186 career goals, a heck of a lot for defensman, but as his career rolled on he got less offense, but still a solid dman and a great physical presence on a team.

Yes, hes one of the top 5 DEFENSIVE DEFENSMAN of all time. Of all defensman all time.. not top five but for sure top 10.

No. First off, Bobby Orr probably has the number one spot locked up. Derrick Potvin was also an amazing player, not to mention Doug Harvery, Scott Stevins, Ray Borque, Larry Robinson, and more. His team mate Nikkolis (sp?) Lindstrom is prolly better than him too.

BTW your link don't work.

Negative, Ghostrider.

He could stick around for 10 more years and win 3 more cups and still not crack the top 5. I'd argue that he doesn't even belong in the top 10-15. Top 20? Maybe, but I still don't think so.

No.
There are at least a dozen beeter D-men "of all time" that come up before he does.
Not being old school, I couldn't drop many names before the mid-90's, but evn in the past ten years I would say Nic Lidstrom, Chris Pronger, Scott Neidermayer, Brian Leach, Ray Borque, and Scott Stevens easily beat him out.

Can't seem to get the video but I'm not one to let a little thing like not knowing the question get in the way of answering it anyway.
Don't think he's top 5 but still pretty damned good.

Chris Chelios is on the NHL AARP's top 5 "next to send AARP to"

No.

I'd place Orr, Harvey, Robinson, Bourque, Leetch, Lidstrom, Potvin, Park, Horton and a few other well before Cheerios.
