What is normal?

A sane mind is a sound mind. A person may have ideas that are different from other people's, and may have points of view that are different, but so long as they are in a sound mind, that person is called sane.
If a mind is unsound, for example, overflowing with rage, that person is often called insane. One common point of sanity is our sense of who we are, our identity, how we came to be, and where we came from.
An insane person lacks that thread of memory and experience, to how they go to their place of mind. They cannot see a pattern to their life or to their thoughts.

Sane and normal aren't necessarily the same thing. Someone can be far from normal, and still qualify as sane. Normal is a synonym for average, and is different for each social group.

A person is sane if they can function within the parameters of the society that they live in. They understand and follow the 'rules', and are able to interact with others successfully. They can understand the difference between fact and fantasy, and do not allow personal fantasy to interfere with their functioning in the 'real' world. They can maintain themselves and their dependents, and provide themselves and their dependents with the necessities of life, either through personal earnings, or successfully negotiating with outside entities that fill the place that extended families used to, a safety net in times of crisis.

An insane person cannot do some or all of the above, for reasons other than lack of education or sufficient IQ.

Wow. Loaded question. With this backwards world, those who define us, are the insane ones. What we think as normal is abnormal to others. My opinion is that the rest are all F***ed in the heads. "We're ten hours from the fu**ing fun park and you wanna bail out!" :)

Normal has been said in the same OLD, same ol' BLAZEE' stereotypical saying, "normal is just a setting on the washing machine." Well, my washing machine has been broken for about a month now. Anyone who wants to compare the insane to the sane, are not in and of themselves sane.

Being called insane for quite some time now, I think it is the so-called "sane" that secretly wish they could be a part of my world...

Depends on how you look at things as different people would see it diffrently. For example a sane man in an insane world would appear to be insane.

Sane will always be normal. Because if you live in a society where insanity if prevalent, then that society will consider insane, sane and sane, insane. Sanity is what society defines as normal.

In some cases I think it is a fine line that divides sane and insane. You have to be a little insane to not GO insane. At least at my house you have to. ha.

The question above, the many others like it, and the thoughts it inspires have bothered philosophers, physiatrists, lawyers, poets and angsty teenagers for centuries. There are the questions of cultural relativity, moral ambiguity and just what makes something normal that produce books, films and papers all trying to tackle the subject in various ways. Some, such as R.D Laing's works, have made their mark and are always references when dealing with this controversial topic - but many are brushed aside or laughed at by those professionals seeking neat and clear definitions.

You had a reason for asking this question. You did not give us much information.
The answers you have received thus far do not answer (what I think) your question is.
I could not venture to guess
so I'm asking you to ask it again and this time, give us a
hint on what you are looking
for. Do you believe it is you
that is going insane? I'm sure
you are not asking the difference between sane and
insane. Do yo think the world
is going insane? What? I
would personally like to know
what you have on your mind?
