It was in some arthouse theaters. I'm guessing you're talking about Perfume: Portrait of a Serial Killer?

Most of the reviews I saw said that the movie failed because they tried to focus on the guy tracking a scent. It might be easy to do in writing, but hard to be as descriptive in a "Sight only" medium like film. Most of these reviewers had read the novel and they all felt it couldn't adapt well to film because you can't see a scent.

I really liked it.. until the last 15 minutes or so.. then it was just stupid.. I love movies like that.. ones that focus on trying to engage your senses.. , I liked the story.. the characters were interesting.. the imagry was amazing.. (the contrast between the beautiful and the horrid was stunning).. they had a perfect end... when the father see's her on the bed.. (not saying more which might spoil it).. but they kept going.. and killed the ending..
