I want to study engineering. I have an ACT score of 26, and SAT score of 1770, and lots of extracurriculars.
I really don't know where to go to college.

I've been taking dance lessons for 10 years, singing for 4 years, i was involved in 4 clubs in high school, including NHS, i've organized two charity drives which have made a lot of money, i was an intern at NIH, was in a biotech summer camp, was a finalist for a vocab bee twice, won first place for singing competition twice...and more.

can i get into the university of maryland (college park)? what other colleges can i get into? i know that both my GPA and SAT scores suck.

You might want to feed all of this information and your preferences into the College Board's website on their College Matchmaker feature (www.collegeboard.com). It can give you a list of possibilities.

As to College Park, 80% of their admittees have GPAs over 3.5 (65% are over 3.75), so while you do have a chance, you certainly could not count on being admitted. They don't seem to look at the SAT writing score, but if I assume that your scores are evenly divided among the three sections, you fall into the mid-range for their students.

Your GPA and SAT scores don't suck. Actually they are pretty darn good. I think you could probably get into College Park without a problem. You can also probably get into almost anywhere else. Schools look at grades and test scores, but they put a lot of emphasis on extra curriculars too and it sounds as if you have that cornered.

I've worked at several colleges and universities and I think you could get into any of them....the ones I've worked at are Michigan State, Binghamton University (part of the State University of New York system - very good school), and the University of New Hampshire. Honestly, think about where (area of the country wise) that you might want to go, how much you are willing/able to spend on college and then start looking. I would go online....I'm sure you can find college search sites easily. Most of them will list what their basic requirements are for the school and probably for the engineering program as well. Good Luck!

can you give us a bit more info? highest score you can get on SAT is 1600....
but from the information you provided, it sounds like you have a lot of options, schools are looking for people who have a wide variety of interests in addition to just doing well in an academic sense.

You won't know till you apply there. If you don't get into the school of your choice as a freshman, you can transfer there. Grades aren't everything, and I wish I hadn't made myself worried sick over them.
