Whether it's a rock band, pop, or R&B group,to me, it just sends this message that "I'm bigger than the group, I can do this alone". Does that bother anyone else?

No, it doesn't bother me.

I think the bonds between some band members are stronger and they agree to work as a team through thick and thin, but I'm sure some dreams are sacrificed along the way.

But what if your band wanted to do all of your songs a certain way and you wanted to try something different? If you were the lead man and had written some great new tunes you wanted to perform but they didn't want to get out of their comfort zone long enough to back you on an exciting new project, would you let them hold you back?

Sometimes you have to do what is right for you even though other disagree. So that being said, no it does not bother me because we don't know why they feel compelled to make an album on their own, so it is not fair to judge them.

At some points I can agree cause than that solo artist who left the band/group for a few months (or prehaps even a year) gets kicked out. When that happens they get a new member who's got different ideas about music and eventually the band loses their most loyal fans because they've changed their ways... And everybody gets upset, they hate each other, they do horrible stuff etc. But in some points it's good. If the band/group just make a decision to not exist as a band/group anymore, than it's ok to continue their carriers doing solo albums. Or if a certain member gets kicked out for some reasons it's ok to start a solo carrier or make (or get into) another band. That's what I think.

It really depends. If U2 went on hiatus, I'd hate to hear the Bono solo album because it would be some kind of sweeping, overblown ego-trip with lots of hype and little substance. Yet I'd be interested in hearing stuff by the other guys, particularly Edge, because they clearly have a lot of interesting musical ideas. Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen did a tight variation of the "Mission Impossible" theme a few years ago, that was rather good.

So I guess if you're someone from a really famous music group who's interested in cutting a solo album, it all boils down to whether you're interested in showing the world how great you are, or whether you're in relentless pursuit of expressing your creative muses to the best of your ability, wherever those muses take you. Both are selfish, naturally, but I believe the second path is infinitely more rewarding.

The biggest peril: Regrouping. Emerson, Lake and Palmer went on hiatus at their zenith around 1974, and when they came back in 1977 with the two-volume "Works" (which had a bunch of "solo" cuts and a few group compositions), the results were generally atrocious (with a few notable exceptions), and the ego-trip fooled none. ELP was dead within two years. They did a few reunions over the years, of course, but they never sounded the same again, even before middle age and old age set in.

No, not really. It usually just happens when the artist has musical interests that are outside the genre or focus of the group itself. I don't think that all group-to-solo releases are an attempt to make that person the bigger star.

No one in a band owes any1 else anything. They all are in a band together. Everyone has their own ideas and visions for music and sometimes they can't develop those sort of ideas in a group and they need to do some things alone.

one million) The Thirteenth Floor via Sirenia I recognize we significantly disagree in this album. You discover Ailyn's vocal vulnerable, I love them. I additionally consider the reality 2 of my best 3 Metal songs of 2009 got here from this album (Sirens Of The Seven Seas and The Path To Decay) is a large facet of why it is #one million for Me. I consider they're correct on the virtually apex of Symphonic Metal as #three correct at the back of Nightwish and Therion. two) Design Your Universe via Epica Sirenia's principal festival. Though I like a few man or woman Sirenia songs a long way greater than whatever off Universe, that is one humdinger of an album as a entire unit. Plus, if the sort of factor is viable Simone continues getting greater and extra robust, the girl is real a Goddess. three) Evocation one million: The Arcane Dominion O M F G...Omnos, want I say extra. Omnos is tied with Sirens Of The Seven Seas because the unmarried finest Metal tune I've heard in ceaselessly. Certainly of 09 until now and nonetheless ready. four) The Miskolc Experience via Therion THERION....OPERAS....OMG....TEH AWESOMEZ0RZ !!!!! NAh. It's like when you decide to go do something else instead of hanging out and doing the same thing again with your friends. I was in a band...I went off and did my solo thing. I needed to explore my creative tastes....not a compromise of everybody elses.

OMG, I do! It's like, we already know that you're the greatest of the band, don't rub it in. It drives me nuts when they just have to have an album all to themselves! I am though, fine with it if the band has broken up.
