That is, can they declare I do not own it, to a mortgage lender for example. And say NO ONE owns it, or my resident sister owns it. Or my deceased father owns it. (Since he receives the monthly maintenance bill, which I pay with my own check, having the address of the apt on the check.)
I have paid two lawyers to put my name on the apt, without success. I paid $20,000 to the 2nd lawyer, without success. He shouted at me, "They have a RIGHT to do that !!"

Your name can not be put on the stock certificate.

At this point lawyers are useless to you.

Your best bet is to find out who manages the Co-Op and talk to them.

It all depends on the proprietary lease and the by laws.
You may have to be interviewed by the Board of directors.

If you have to be interviewed by the Board they can DENY you to live there.

It all depends on the Board, they control everything.

Also do not stop paying the Maintenance or Bank (if the bank still has a lean on it) If you do stop paying the maintenance they can foreclose on the unit. We have done that to a person or two.

The person you have to talk to is the Managing company. The Board of directors control everything. They are governed by the By Laws.

And remember DO NOT STOP PAYING the maintenance. They WILL foreclose... I am on a board of directors in a
co-op.

OH I LIKE what the guy above me said that sounds right. The thing is to look at the lease. It is an aprtment not a condo community. I think they will be OK with it as long as you are nice and are paying the bills and so on.
