i heard that usually only post offices and banks are closed
will there be public transportation such as public buses??
i live in new jersey if it makes a difference
i still need to go school shopping!

ALL The stores will be open -- and the hours may vary. These stores will WANT to have your business ... especially the "Back to School" kind of business.
As far as public transportation goes -- it will be available too during Labor Day.

They'll be open. In fact, there are usually Labor Day sales so be prepared for lots of mall traffic!
