'85 New England Patriots

I see some people sighting teams like the 94 Chargers the 85 Patriots, and the 00 Giants, largely because they got decimated in their respective superbowl appearances.

I say remember that those teams where good enough to make the big dance as evident by the fact that they MADE IT TO THE SUPERBOWL. You don't do that if you are a horrible TEAM (last time I checked the incosistant Grossman at QB did not play on the Bears defense last season).

Just take a look at the teams that won those superbowls against these "horrible teams." 2000 Ravens, record setting defense. Think your running back was getting a 100 yards? Not against the Ravens, and uhhh...good luck with that passing game. With a sub-average offense, that defense demonstrated that it could TAKE OVER a ballgame, and often times did.

1994 49ers, hello Joe Montana, hello Jerry Rice, hello west coast offense, hello Bill Walsh. Here's another Lombardi for your franchise.

1985 Chicago Bears ok that was still back when the NFC had a clear stronghold on the AFC. However Mike Singletary, Wille "the Fridge" Perry, Walter Payton. Who was going to stop the momentum that they had, the only team that did that was Miami that year who failed to make the superbowl. Another record setting defense, and all around good team.

You are talking about some record setting teams here all together.

All that being said, with due respect to Bill Cowher I think that the Steelers where probably the least potent of teams that I've seen make a superbowl run. They where pretty good, but they where helped out by some pretty questionable calls from the refs (though at the same time I think Seattle had chances but failed to overcome their adversity and at least show up better against the Steelers if not beating them).

Out of every other recent superbowl I can say that the teams that won did so a bit more fairly than the Steelers.

Last year's Bears was nowhere near the worst Super Bowl team ever. The Seahawks a few years back couldn't beat the Steelers when Pittsburgh played their worst game of the season. But there are a few teams that really shine as bottom feeders.
The 89/90 Broncos were killed by the 49ers. Nearly 300 yards of offense less, with 16 fewer first downs. Also the niners had the ball for 19+ more minutes.
The 85/86 Pats had only 2.3 yards per play and 12 first downs. Their leading rusher had 4 yards.
The 87/88 Broncos gave up over 600 yards., at 8.4 yards per play.
The 77/78 Broncos managed a mere 156 yards at 2.7 per play. Threw 4 picks, lost 4 fumbles and had the ball for 17 less minutes.
The 2000/01 Giants averaged 2.6 yards per play. They got killed by a team with a terrible offense, that gave back 70 yard in penalties. Kyle Richardson, the punter for the Ravens, should have been the landslide MVP in this game. Kerry Collins was 38% for 112 with 4 picks. How can you say Rex Grossman was worse? 72% with 1 TD/2 INT, 165 yards. Not lighting it up, but not Collins bad.

The 07 bears, 85 patriots, 94 Chargers, 99 Giants could all be counted among the worst. I don't agree with your pick of the Steelers. They probably had the worst performance for a winning team once they got there, but They won at Cincy, at Indy and at Denver during the playoffs. Thats a remarkable run. Their Defense was smothering during that playoff run.

The Cryboys take the cake. The absolute worst. The one good thing about those losers is that with the current "team" down there in Dallass, at least we won't have to worry about seeing them in the SB for about 100 yrs.
PS: The Steelers beat the best in the big leagues, the AFC & did it on the road. Did ya happen to notice how many Steeler fans were in the stands at all those road games? All you Steeler haters can kiss my ***. The Steelers are one of the most successful teams in the league, year in & year out & those of us in the Steeler Nation will continue to support our guys. The rest of you are free to join us & support a class organisation or you can stick with the wannabees.

85 Patriots. The 07 Steelers were more known for their defense than their offense but so was the 00 Ravens.

Thats funny, From what i recall of the 06 season, we beat Cinci, Peyton Manning and his colts, and Denver, and wait ????? were all those games on the road ???? I believe so ! If thats a bad team Then were do i sign ! And last i checked they made it to the Super Bowl and won ! Dude, the regular season records dont matter in the playoffs. Everyone is 0-0 when the playoffs start. The Steelers were the Best team in the playoffs and Super Bowl, and thats all that matters ! F the Steeler Haters !

93-94 Buffalo Bills. It's bad enough they lost in the Super Bowl TWICE before in the past three seasons but they lose AGAIN! No team could do that with being called the worst.

You said worst team to make it, not how they played in the game.

Record-wise, it was the 1979 Rams, who still put up a helluva performance in Super Bowl XIV against the Steelers.

Performance-wise, I'd go with the 1976 Vikings.

uhh the 03 Raiders didnt make the Super Bowl, it was the 02 Raiders. And dont forget that Gannon was the MVP, 2-time Pro Bowl MVP, and set several records for passing efficiency throwing to Hall of Famers like Tim Brown and Jerry Rice. It was one of the most prolific offenses of any season, so dont tell me they're the worst team to ever make it. And they only lost because they were essentially still using Gruden's playbook that Callahan inherited, so Gruden knew exactly how to plan for it. If it was any other team or any other coach, the Raiders blow them away :)

The worst Super Bowl team ever has to be the Bills of the Kelly era. You cant lose 4 straight Super Bowls without being the worst Super Bowl team of all time :)

Most of you aren't old enough to remember the 1977 Broncos under QB Craig Morton and Head Coach Red Miller. They were a wild card team that slipped in because of two fluke losses in the AFC playoffs and completely surprised their selves and the rest of the NFL. They were embarrassed (35-7) by the Dallas Cowboys under Ken Stabler and Tom Landry.
