People are stupid because they don't think.
The average person is intelligent, they just don't want to put forth the effort to research/make their own opinion. They want someone to be right, and they want to follow them.
That's why you have people following ridiculous ideas. People don't question what they're told, no matter how ridiculous it sounds. They just pick a side and defend it with the little bit of facts they know.

Individuals are smart. And even some large groups can be smart. However, it is when you have a large group of people who feel the need to impress others and give into peer pressure easily that stupid things happen. Well, that and greed makes people do stupid things.
So I guess what I am saying is yes, people can be stupid, but a lot of the time it is outside influences and a weak mind that make the lethal combination.

hahaha, I've echoed that phrase so many times in my customer service job it could be considered a prayer. The thing is, you probably are saying they're stupid in comparison to how smart you think they should be, which is rather egocentric.
Yet I believe there is a quote that can sum it up, "What is the most fundamental human characteristic...fear or laziness?"
I guess to go on, I would really need to know what you define as stupid. Because everyone has their stupid moments from time to time, but that doesn't mean they are stupid. Just like a person who trips once isn't clumsy. I think what really makes someone stupid is the refusal to accept their ideas could be wrong. A person who refuses to learn something knew or change something they know. Generally a person who will threaten voilence if they disagree with you, because they have nothing else to back up their claim.
Why are people like that? They are like that because society is in the process of crippling our mind. Our society only wants us to be as smart as we have to be, to do our job. We are trained as kids to obey our teacher and follow a structure life. We are taught what is clearly right and clearly wrong and to obey the society. From the puppet government that is school, we move to the real world and it's real government, that wants you to maintain working the jobs to make it's nation strive while slowing driving away free thought. We are trained to be worker bees.
I forget where I was going, I hope that answered your question.

yes, why are people so stupid? My guess would be that even though they're still taking in nourishment, they're really brain-dead.
If we could tax stupidity, we could pay off the national debt.

People are not stupid at all. I think most people want to keep a blind eye to this world as we feel too much as human beings and don't want to get hurt.

I think that most individuals are pretty smart actually, it's when you get large groups that people somehow become mindless, an amazing phenomena really, the "mob mentality".

Its because they seek to be other than they are. Being one's own self enables real growth, while endeavoring to fit into a stylized profile is mind-numbing.
