McAfee Far better
Norton Download Updates all the time and never seems to install updates right. McAfee Update and you don't even notice anything other then a small arrow going in circles.

Truthfully after my experience with them all I prefer to buy Zone Alarm Security Suite by Zone Labs as it puts more control into the hands of the user. Yes it is highly aggressive and it takes some getting used to in order make the most of it. A lot of people find it difficult to use but I've had it for several years now and really prefer it over all others.
I bought a new laptop with Vista and it came with a Free 90 day trial of Norton and I uninstalled it immediately. It's not even worth it to me free.

If I had to pay for one i could take Kaspersky palms down, besides the shown fact that considering the fact which you're getting Norton for unfastened from Comcast i could take that. Norton not undesirable, merely heavy on the substances.

neither
cannot speak for mcaffee but overall they are in the same league as nortons - mass market to remove money from the pockets of nubes and to reassure them
Norton antivirus being the market leader and among neophytes due to advertising and marketing is the target of chouce for virus writers
Worse yet their product will slow your computer to a crawl even if you remove the product

Using the anti-virus or not is not really matter.
The important thing you have to do is aware and be careful.
