Geology is a branch of Earth science - the study of how the Earth formed and changes. The "physical" part means that real objects are being studied as opposed to ideas. Physiology is a branch of biology that studies the functions of living organisms. For example, human physiology is concerned with our body systems: circulatory, nervous, digestive, etc.

Oddly enough, the Physiology and Geology buildings are right next door to each other at Auburn University.

Off topic, I know, but that's what popped into my head when I read the question.

From the Concise Oxford Dictionary- geology, definition 1: the science of the earth, including its composition, structure, and origin of its rocks. This definition can applyto any planet or celestial body. So stop being such pompous asses.
