I have 4 children. And with my last I was at 2cm and 80% for a while. Then I started to have body aches and a lot of pressure then I was 2cm 100%. If your not sure go to the hospital what is the worst they can do? Send you home again.

Do you have contractions, or braxton hicks contractions? Tightening of the belly or cramping on occasion?

That is what causes the cervix to tighten and dilate.

Real contractions that are associated with labor are painful and last 45-90 seconds and come every 5 minutes or so. You would know if that was happening.

Some women dilate way before they are due and some do it all in a few hours of labor. Everyone is different.

I never dilated on my own and I didnt efface. I had to be induced and that was very painful.

You don't actually feel the cervix as it is dilating. What you DO feel are the Braxton-Hicks contractions (and during labor, "real contractions") which cause your uterus to dilate.

The pains feel like a tightening of the uterus and then a relaxing and they get more intense and sometimes painful in the days right before you go into labor.

I was at 4 and 100% effaced and hadn't felt a thing. I was surprised when my doctor had told me that, but I went into labor the same day.

I was also dilated 2cm on Sunday. The doctor didnt seem too worried about it. I had asked this question before and many women said you can go weeks before you dilate some more.
