I was thinking about the whole evoltuion/creation debate the other day and this interesting question popped into my head. Now I'm not that concerned with whether evolution is true or not but if so then why? I know its supposed to be because of the survival instinct. But why do we have a survival instinct? Why does everything fight to save its own life and continue the life of it's species? I could really care less what you think of evolution or creationism. I just really want all you people to think about this. just pondering this mystery gives me a beautiful feeling.

Well to me, Evolution is a beautiful and profound insight into the nature of creation.
Things can always be created through intelligent design,
Evolution says creation occurs even in the absence of intelligent design, which I personally think is pretty damn cool.

Evolution or creation that is driven by intelligent design progresses very quickly. The evolution of computers has been much faster than any natural biological evolution.
The directed biological evolution of genetic engineering will progress much faster than natural or random biological evolution. Any one who says the Earth is young is probably arguing for directed evolution. Any one, who says the Earth is old, thinks we are the result of natural evolution.

Everyone believes in evolution because everyone knows that living things change. Not everyone believes in natural evolution though.

You question is really: "How could natural evolution create the desire to survive?" 'cause it's pretty damn obvious why God would make it that way.

The answer is the principal of Natural Evolution. Given a random change in the desire or ability to survive, the change resulting in an increased desire or ability will cause increased survival. Over time, (natural evolution always needs time) the creatures with the higher desire/ability to survive will replace those with lesser desire/ability.

It's kind of like noticing the play off teams are always really good. It's not because there are no bad teams, its cause the bad teams got weeded out during the regular season.
The new generation is always the children of the winners, because not having children is the definition of looser. You come from a long line of winners.

And don't let those depressing Atheistic Liberal Socialists tell you Evolution has ANYTHING to do with the existence of God. It doesn't.

It just means the story of Adam & Eve isn't really about when humans first appeared on earth.
It's about the semi tragic fact that a Woman can talk a Man into doing ANYTHING,
Even if God Almighty has told him not to.

Whether you care or not, I do believe in God. He has put that survival instinct in us. Even those who commit suicide try to back out most of the time. Some don't make it. Look at my little flowers. They survived through the hot summer because I gave them a drink once in a while.

Well, this is one of the basic tenets of evolution. The drive to keep the species going is an instinctual, inborn need. Why? Just that the individuals without this drive died and were not able to have little ones. Therefore the little ones that were born were more likely to have the drive to survive. It's beautifully simplistic.

Because God wants us to survive. That is why we have been endowed with survival instinct. Our WOrld was not created just to die, but to evolve and perpetuate and to keep getting there through the challenges of life, illness, death, problems, how we adapt to changes, to see how clever we are, how the beautiful comes out in us when things are at their worst.

The drive to survive has been perfected by natural selection - organisms that didn't have a strong drive to survive and reproduce built into their genes have been removed from the gene pool. They are extinct.

That is why I think it is so sad that many humans are embarrassed and repulsed by sex. It is THE reason our species has made it to this level of sophistication, and rather we should (IMO) rejoice over it, not be disgusted by it.

There may have been species evolved without the survival instinct. But they probably died out!

well the thing is that we don't know what will happen to us when we die, so my guess is that, it is the thought of death that makes every living thing strive to survive. well you might be thinking about how would other lower form of living things think, well who knows. i guess nobody even knows the exact reason why they strive to exist, it is mystery which would hunt us and who knows it probably might be the reason why we strive to exist anyway.

maybe these 2 things:

-because of Adam and Eve eating the Forbidden Fruit, they were cursed to strive to survive to live. We are their children, so we are with that curse too

-because to fulfill our purpose here, we must live. we are mostly useless if we are physically dead
