I honestly wouldn't suggest Dell but I would suggest Sony viao, hp, toshiba, or compaq. I would use a pc first before using a mac. They are nice but go w/ a pc first unless ur majoring in anything that's deals w/ design like architecture, fashion design, interior design and yeah....

I would highly recommened an Apple Mac Book or Macbook Pro. I would steer clear of Acer, Dell, or Gateway. Some other good brands are Toshiba and HP. And just to be safe, always buy the extended warranty.

contact the school you are going to. Many now have it built into tuition and you are given one when you get there. Others have special funding where you can get good deals as a student. If you plan to be a graphic designer or artist, an Apple would be better. If not, go with a regular microsoft operating machine. I have a compaq and its awesome. Many kids at my college have Dells. Contact the school b4 buying anything to make sure they dont have special rates etc. Hope this helps! Good luck at school!

If you don't mind getting a Mac, get a Macbook.

My sister's been using HP for years. The same HP NOTEBOOK. She has a new one now because she wanted a newer one but the old one still works perfectly. Her new one is also an HP. They last. Want proof? Everyone in my family has been using HP computers and none of them ever had any problems no matter what.

I'd suggest an HP or a Toshiba. Both are durable and I haven't had any problems with them. Office Depot has Toshiba's on sale every few months that are limited quantity with an instant rebate and sometimes an additional mail-in rebate.

If you get one, you might add additional memory to it.

Do not get a Dell or an Acer. Both are nothing but trouble.

Get a Mac laptop. You won't have to worry virus and most programs for Windows have a Mac version. It may cost you a bit more then most PC laptop but in the long run, your Mac laptop will still be working unlike most PC.

You might want to wait until you know where you are going. Some schools will either have specific requirements, or there may be support for students' computers as long as you have a certain type, but you could be on your own if you bought the wrong computer.

It depends on many factors: price, how often you travel, how fast you need for you laptop. So I think you should read some reviews before going to the last decision.

One with Linux installed or one which you feel comfortable installing it on!!!! Windows had SO many problems. My daughter has fought windows issues on her school network for 2 years, now. People with linux have NO problems.

Below is the one I use.
