I am currently entering Grade 11. I live in Canada and I will be going to the U.S for College.

What I wanted to know was do I need to take the SAT to get into College in the U.S or am I excused from it because I am Canadian?

A guidance chancellor at an American University told me I would be excused from taking the SAT because I'm Canadian.

What I want to know is if in Canada we have an equivalent to the American SAT. Or are we simple excused from it when applying to U.S University's or do we have an equivalent test here that I just dont know about?

You will most likely need to take the SAT to get into an American university. You should always check with the schools that you are applying to for any specific requirements. I too am Canadian and I know all of my friends who went to American universitues had to take the SAT.
To answer the second part of the question, no there is no equivalent to the American SAT in Canada, but you can write the American SAT in Canada. You can also write practice SAT exams in Canada, which I would highly recommend doing.

You can get into Canadian universities and many American ones without taking the SAT, but you'll most likely need to take the TOEFL or IELTS to be admitted.

You are not excused because you are from Canada, you need to find out the school you want to get into and find out what they require, if they require the SAT's and SAT's ll then you need to take them, it is a whole part of the aplication here. I have a room mate from the U.K and she had to take the SAT's over there to get accepted.

I was surprised to hear you say this, so I looked it up. What I found is that many schools would excuse you if you came from a country without an SAT test center. Unfortunately, Canada has many of them. You can find them on www.collegeboard.com.

if you have it available, yes. If English isnt your primary language, (say French is), then you can take the TOEFL. I hope this helps! Good luck!
