I helped. Lots of work, but it's well worth the effort. The flavor is out of this world.

Indeed, I have! My family loves jams and perserves as well!

The last time I canned, I made strawberry jam and shared with family members. They thought it was a great treat as it tastes so much better than the store bought brands do.

Now, that the topic has been brought up....My sister was always overweight. She would diet and diet and still it did very little to help. Later, we found out that she had a medical reason for this.

Anyway, when Daddy and I would can, Sis stayed away as she hated canning. So, one day, we were in the kitchen, making grape jelly from mustang wild grapes! Sis, had the music going and Dad and I turned to say something to her. However, when we turned, Sis was dancing with all she had and I mean ALL she had! It embarassed her to know that she had been seen but, we were rolling laughing! We couldn't help the laughter as we had never seen Sis cut loose like that! EVER!

The only thing my Dad said, "Well, it must be jelly 'cause jam don't shake like that"!! That started all of us laughing and Sis was so tickled at what he had said! That was a fun moment and is a very wonderful memory. I had to share this story after the jam question! LOL

I guess you can say I am close to senior but not there yet. And yes, I have made all kinds of jams, strawberry, peach, pear, elderberry, red and black-current, blueberry and red Pepper Jelly. I used to make a real nice marmalade, with oranges, lemons and limes. Today I don't anymore, my health is not as good and I have to watch my sugar being a diabetic.. I used to make a lot and give them away as gifts for Christmas.

One summer when my husband hauled fresh fruit out of Michigan I made so much blueberry jam that I've never made or eaten it since! I've made many other jams and jellies but since the kids are grown and the grandkids don't like it, I no longer make it.

I am especially fond of "freezer jams". All you need to do is wash the fruit and get it ready (like dicing or peeling), then mix in sugar and a packet of Freezer Jam Pectin (from whichever of your favourite manufacturers you want to use). Then you just spoon it into jars and seal it well and freeze it.

To use all you do is put it into your fridge the day before. This stuff tastes just like fruit preserves. It tastes equally well on ice creams as it does on toast.

I've done just about every kind there is over the years.

But, the thing I like almost the best is homemade Apple Butter with a goodly amount of cinnamon. Yummy on hot toast for breakfast.

Not me personally, But one year my father came home with a flat of strawberries. And I LOVE strawberries. He was going to make jam or jelly. Any way to make a long story short, he messed it up somehow and it came out like a syrupy juice. I was quite upset as he had wasted all those strawberries. He ended up thowing it all away.He had the Pectin, but I was too young to know what he did wrong.

yes, it is very easy..just cook the fruit down, add sugar, "sure gel" and citric acid to taste...pour into jars and either place a lid or pour wax on top...I refrigerate, but you do not have to....mold and bacteria do not grow in it. This is one of the easiest things to "can" in the game. And, it is very good, IF and only IF you can find the fruit at a very cheap price..otherwise, it is easier and cheaper just to buy the stuff.
