Yes! We had a huge garden when I was a child. We made tons of pickles...sweet, dill, sour. Daddy loved pickled beets too and so, loads of those too. What we did not can, we froze!

Oh Yes, for many years I canned my own Tomato Sauce, made bushels in the summer. I canned peaches and pears. And made my own pickles, and also pickled eggplant and peppers and beets. I put a lot in my freezer too, from peas, to corn to cabbage and swiss chard. It all kept real well.. Frozen stawberries and raspberries were so good in the winter months on pancakes and dessert.

Yes, I used to can green beans and calico beans. I would freeze some purple hull peas and can some. I used to can tomatoes for soup etc. I used to make ripe tomatoe relish to put on peas and beans. Not in a long time though. I used to have a huge garden and I loved it. I couldn't handle one now if my life depended on it. I do miss that good food though

All the time. I have put up more jars of tomatoes than most stores have for sale (in one year). I also put together a pork spaghetti sauce from fresh rendered down tomatoes that is a hit with all the neighbours. Every time they smell it cooking, they start looking hopefully over to my kitchen windows!

I canned fruits and vegetables, jams, jellies, and even watermelon rind preserves from the time I married until my children were grown. Now, however, the only thing I can are hot peppers. As a matter of fact, I canned a gallon of hot peppers yesterday.
