i had my son done and yes he screamed but the thing is you do not have to go in the room with him. and it doesnt really take that long. they are given a local anestetic before hand and you can give them half a dose of infant tylonel to help the discomfort for the couple of days right after. it is tough. i stood right outside the room and it was hard for me to hear him cry

Congratulations on your plans for your son's circumcision.

Without anaesthetic, circumcision hurts. But with EMLA cream and/or a penile dorsal nerve block injection, the only discomfort your son will have will be in being naked and in being secured in the circumstraint. In most cases when the baby is being circumcised, he falls asleep. If he has any discomfort at all, it will not be remembered anyway.

Recovery is swift - a week max. Depending on the method, use lots of vaseline for about three days and it is all over for his entire life. The tragic alternative is that he may need a circumcision at some time in the future for a medical reason and then there is remembered physical and psychological pain!

When he has (or had) his PKU test, tests for jaundice, or his immunizations shots, they are all more painful and unpleasant than his circumcision. You are so very wize to have decided to have your baby circed.

The end result is an increased ease of cleanliness, prevention of infection, phimosis and paraphimosis and a comfort in fitting the social/cultural/religious norms of our society.

Congratulations again

My son didn't even cry-he slept the whole time. they numb them so they can't feel it. they use to not numb them which is pretty crazy if you ask me. you wont be there when he gets it done and after my son never cried either he never even really knew the difference. my son was 1 day old when he got it done he is now 4 1/2 months. it take about a week to fully heal. PROFESSOR they do use meds. the dc who did my sons refused to do it if we did not allow him to used a local anes... and i was all for that some babies cry and some don't. i personally think s alot of them cry just because theya re restrained and strapped when they do it. my son didn't make a peep. you can google it on videos and maybe they'll have one of it being done

If it's done in the first 3 day asfter birth, the baby's perception of pain is still in the works.... A month old seem a little bit late.
My sone was 11 months when they did his, but he was under getting tubes in his ears anyway.

He did have a lot of pain after and it was all purple and blue. I wish they would have done it when he was first born

yes it is painful. I dont know why doctors think babies dont have a nervous system that feels pain..but thats why they cry after all.

You can give tylenol before and after for the pain. Keeping vaseline on the wound will help keep it from sticking to a diaper too.

Its gonna tear your heart out...if you are doing it for religious reasons, then I guess you dont have a choice. But if you are doing it for social reasons, you dont have to have it done. Its not necessary any longer.

I have two boys, the second had such a traumatic birth I wouldn't leave him and was in the room when the doctor performed the procedure, he said I was the first parent that had attended that didn't faint! My child was given medication so he didn't feel it, but watching was bad. My suggestion, let them handle it and you won't know the details. He will be fine.

Of course it will hurt him. It's surgery and he's just a baby. Why are you getting him circumcised? It's not medically necessary, and if you teach your kids proper hygiene it's no big deal to keep it clean. If you think hearing him cry hurts your feelings... well that's just a very selfish thing to say, frankly, I'm sorry!

Then you should not be in the room, lol. I never knew what "bloody murder" sounded like til my son was circumsized. It's really quite quick....and you have to think long term, big picture, right? It's healthy for the baby.

When I was a nursing student, I watched two of these proceedures. It was the most inhumane thing I've ever seen. Believe me, you don't want to even be in the building when it is done. A grown man whose is not circumsized can have problems keeping clean and his wife will typically have more yeast-type infections.

I know that every baby boy I've known who has been circumcised has cried...is it from pain I don't know because the child can't speak. Doctors say "no" but my question is how do they know...if they are circumcised they wouldn't remember it anyway.
