to understand a lot of things! sociology states that nothing is natural, an individual's character, his ideas, even his instincts are all constructs of society. with sociology one may uncover what lies behind the mask of society, the reasons behind unquestioned traditions so ingrained in one's mind that it becomes a part of what is called the "common sense", when actually such a tradition is actually say, a sociological construct to protect the power structure. with this one will learn to enjoy both the company of priests and prostitutes without condemning in ignorance the acts of the latter or in ignorance also be blindly following the former.

It was a required course, got an A, and never cracked a book, just fed the lecture notes back to the prof in his tests, he really was full of himself.

Because the study of human behaviour is extremely interesting.
If you are into science or maths it would not right for you..
It is better to study something which interests you.
