what is the best way to put somebody "on the spot?" i want to see them sweat!?

Offer to paint a portrait of them, exclaim that it's your best work ever, refuse to let them see it until it's done, and do a horrible job.
Show them a picture of your ugly children and ask for confirmation that they're the most beautiful children ever.
