Dream Theater. NO other band has the flexibility of style. Each musician is a master of his instrument. Each instrument has a 'vital' part of the whole band. They can play everything from acoustic 'classical' type songs, to heavy Metallica influenced songs. If you haven't heard them, I really suggest you check them out! John Petrucci, the guitarist, is one of the best guitarists on the planet, both his style and his tone are the greatest! They are more progressive rock, and some of their songs are up to 23 minutes long! To me they are like a mix of Rush, Yes, Megadeth, Metallica, and Frank Zappa! The best way to hear of them is to take a listen! I would recommend 'Pull Me Under' from their 'Images and Words' album. That's probably their 'staple' song, and the one that gets the most airplay. Enjoy their music!

For all around talent and staying power, it's the Rolling Stones for me. They've been together since the mid 60's and most of their songs are still recognizable even by people who were born after the Rolling Stones began recording.
