Efficiency below threshold Bank 1. 1/2 and 2/2 on a 2001 Firebird. Can anyone tell me what the 'Mode$10' part means?

I've not seen the "Mode$10" before. The description for code P0420 is "Catalyst system efficiency below threshold, left bank."

You should take it to a GM dealer and see what they can do for you. I took mine in and they replaced both converters free of charge, despite that I didn't buy the car there AND was outside of the 80k warranty. I was very surprised.

Hmmm, never seen any code that displayed anything like that! Where did that code info come from? Parts store? Or do you have a scan tool? May need to try a different device. Every P0420 code I've seen has been a failed cat. converter. I'm pretty sure that the factory warr. on converters is 8/80, so if you are under on mileage you may want to check with the dealer and see if you're covered!
Good luck!

Basicly you will need to replace the passengers side cat converter. You let your black cat cross your path Mode$10 means you will spend lots of money. Call my friends at Random Technology Dot Com for a set of new higher flowing cat converters and have them welded in. There is a possability your exhaust has a small air leak and depending on how many miles on the car you could also want to replace your O2 sensors with new GM sensors too.
