Do you mean a USB stick? USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. Yes, it is used to save and store your files, just as you would do on a floppy disk. Make sure you obtain this USB drive, because it is so much reliable more than the other media where you save your work. It's compatible with almost every computer you use, and it saves gigabytes of work (which means lots and lots of space).
On the computer, you will find a small rectangular port to plug the USB stick in. You'll either find it at the front of your CPU case (nearby the CD and floppy slots) or at the back of your computer (where the wires all go in). You just need to look carefully for a small rectangular port.
Very reliable, so invest in it. I can't do without it.

It plugs into the USB port of any computer.
Inside it, there's a "flash" chip for storing things. They come in many different sizes. Most of the new ones can store more than a CD-Rom. The new ones are like 1 or 2 Gigabytes, and they're only like $20.
You can store data on them pretty quickly.

Yes it's more like a giant floppy.
A CD does not normally let you change what written on it.
A USB lets you resize photos, edit text files.
You unplug it, take to a friends house plug it in theirs and move data to or from it.
You can even install programs onto it. Good if your school or work does not allow software installs. Put messengers on it and run from the USB.

Yes, you plug it into a USB port and it looks like a disk drive. You can put files on it, then SAFELY remove it and take it somewhere else.

Yes it is, it simply plug into one of your USB ports! It is another hard drive that is external rather than internal, therefore making it easy to install and move to another computer.
