I have a Toshiba laptop; what kind of laptop do you have? And can I remove vista and install Windows XP Home on it?

My best friend, Joannie, has a new Toshiba laptop. She is also a computer geek! LOL Anyway, her first advice is that Vista runs better and you should keep it, just learn to use it. However, if you really want to change ... you need to create a Toshiba Recovery disc and save to CD. then go to the Toshiba website and get all the drivers you need for sound, video, etc etc for XP and put them on disc. When you are confident you have all recovery information ... you need to format your harddrive and load XP home.

Sounds to me that the best advice was the first ... keep Vista!

I have 2 Dell laptops. I have used Sony and Toshiba before. I suggest going to the Microsoft website below and running the Vista compatibility adviser. This will give you some information concerning if your machine will run Vista.
I suggest that you must have at least 2 gigs of ram to run the software. I caution you about device driver issues with upgrading. I think a number of users are waiting until the first service pack is issued. That revision will address many of the driver related issues now. I also will never purchase the stripped down home version of an operating system. I have done that in the past only to have to go buy the more robust business operating system Good luck.

If you have a big enough hard drive you can just partition it and install XP as well as having Vista. Therefore you can use all your programs that don't work with Vista without actually removing it.

I have a gateway mx6445.

yes you can remove vista and install xp home but you'll have to do a clean install. you will also need to buy the cd ( the real ones cost about $200) or you can download it.

note that if you do a clean install you'll have to look for the hardware drivers (such as sound and video )and install them again. Goodluck

Yes you can but you might have a problem with drivers for the sound, graphics etc

These might be parts of Vista's restore which XP might not have

I have:

Dell Inspiron 1501
Processor: AMD Mobile Sempron 3500+
RAM: 1.5. GB

Yes, you can put Windows XP Home (tm) on it.

But, you would have to search to find it, unless you already have a genuine copy. As, they have stopped production of XP.

But, anyways, yeah.. You can install it with no problems. :)
