I have a 2 inch largemouth bass in a 240 gallon. I could barly afford a large enough habitat for him, so I dont want to be shelling out $200 a year to be feeding him all feeders. I dont want to breed livebearers for food for him. Could I slowly ween him off feeders until he only eats maybe one a day, a worm a day, and the rest pellet food. Would this be ok? Could I even do it?

Easily. I've kept a number of largemouth and smallmouth in aquaria when they were young, and they would take cichlid pellets fairly soon after being put into a tank. I saved feeders and bloodworms (when small) and earthworms (when large) for occassional treats. There's also a pond fish food made for catfish, sunfish, and bass that you can sometimes find in farm stores in the "other animal" (guinea pig, ferret, deer, goat, etc.) food aisle. I used a brand called "Lunker Maker" and all the large fish I've kept (channel cats, bullheads, largemouth, smallmouth, rock bass, bluegill, green sunfish, pumpkinseed, and carp) would all eat it.

I have a couple right now that will eat anything they can put into their mouths. Pellets, flake, frozen food, feeders, worms, leftover pizza; it doesn't matter, bass will eat anything and everything.

Many times the breeders use Trout Chow. It's made by Purina (same people that make Dog Chow) and you can get it in 50 pound bulk sacks for pretty cheap. Check into it a Southern States or Tractor Supply, they might be able to point you in the right direction.

The bait shop I go to has a 300gallon with a large mouth that would make an awesome trophy and they feed it pellets. I never asked how big it was when they got it or what they started out feeding it at first , but it eats pellets now.
