Make it science related by incorporating sound waves, from the different instruments, and what makes them unique sounds, such as an Electric v. Bass guitar, along with the clashing sound waves in a concert.

Figure out how the different instruments in rock music works, how an amp works, etc. Music is very scientific. I'm not very good at science so I can't give you any tips on what specifically to look at... but how instruments work seems like something you could do.

I'd go along with what some others have said--how many decibels of loudness it takes for one to become deaf, or on another side, how many it takes to rattle the windows in someone's house (I remember a neighbor who had to have his music turned up so loud while washing his car that it rattled our front windows in the house and nearly broke them. He also had the bass so loud, you couldn't even hear --let alone --understand the words. This guy lived across the street from me at the time. I can also remember him driving along the street with the music so loud that his car was actually JUMPING up and down in the front end, in time with the music).

How many decibels in sound, if the average 13 year old teenager turns his stereo to full blast, will it take before he is clinically deaf (or really deaf)? You choose the direction on the technical or clinical side of the hypothesis.

I know it sounds cheesy, but people say that plants grow better when music is played to them. Compare R&R to ..I dunno, Classical music and see which one's plants grow faster and healthier. Make sure to use the same amount of seeds, water, amount of sunlight and time spent listening to music to make sure it's an accurate project. Even if your results are inconclusive, it should still impress your teacher! Good luck!
